I am learning to sew!
It’s official… I used a sewing machine today and everything. What astounds me the most about sewing is how much of the time I spend in the meticulous cutting, pinning, ironing, and direction-reading phases of the project. After that, the sewing isn’t exactly easy but it goes by really fast.
I can already tell that in order to sew well, I must learn to apply a degree of precision to my work that my painter’s brain is not accustomed to. The good news is that my mother (author of tangomango and woman of many talents) is my teacher, and she’s been sewing almost all of her life. She’s great at sewing, and she’s placing an emphasis on perfection and care that I really appreciate. Thanks mom! :)
I’d love to post pictures, but unfortunately/fortunately there might be CHRISTMAS MAGIC in store with the stuff I’m working on and I don’t want to ruin the surprise. I will say that it’s an easy project and that so far, I am very satisfied with my results…. sans one hilarious and harmless mistake that I will reveal later.
Any beginners tips?
