Big Windows and a Bus Stop
To me, home is a place where I can throw off my shoes, make my own rules, and study quietly into the wee hours of the morning. Home provides a safe, friendly place to refuel and relax, and all of this takes on a special meaning as a college student.
I enjoy accompanying my cleaning sprees with custom dance routines, and the only potential roommate I know of who is already accustomed to this spontaneous lifestyle is my cat, Delores (minus the cleaning part, unfortunately). The two of us would feel right at home in a pet-friendly apartment with nice big windows for her to peer out of while I attend classes.
After class, I will likely run my crucial errands before delving into schoolwork. As someone who lives without a car, one of a prospective apartment’s biggest perks is its proximity to all the local hotspots. Some of my prior living arrangements bring back cringe-worthy memories of foodstuffs leaping from my makeshift grocery basket and hitting the pavement on long, bumpy walks home across town. Needless to say, I welcome the thought of opening my door and seeing a bus stop in my front yard.
Returning to school requires me to be practical when it comes to budgeting, and I therefore automatically ruled out any “dream apartment” that requires me to win the lottery or marry into royalty before I can afford it. I geared my search parameters on Vacancy.com toward finding an apartment that would not only be totally awesome, but also realistic. The Timberwood apartments in Bellevue, Washington look like a great option:

Using the floor plan organizer, I established that the “studio” apartment size would provide plenty of space for all of my furniture and knick-knacks along with ample room to work on school projects when needed. I love that there is a large window to allow my cat and I to soak up natural light during the Pacific Northwest’s many gray days, and the complex’s pool is an added stress-busting bonus. The apartment is pet-friendly, cable ready, and boasts a nearby bus stop. It fits my budget nicely, and it sounds like a great place to grow some roots.
The best thing about the Timberwood apartments is how close they are to the DigiPen Institute of Technology, which is the school I wish to attend in fall of 2012. Most hours will hopefully find me focusing on my studies within the halls of DigiPen, and there will undoubtedly be many caffeine-fueled early mornings and late nights. When the sun sets, it will be comforting to know that I have a home to return to, and that Delores’s face will greet me in the window as I step off the bus.
